Secondary schooling in Hammersmith and Fulham:
The facts and figures

The statistics are truly shocking. Here are some of the key facts that made us want to do something;

•62% of children don’t go to a local school!!!
•23% go private and that figure is rising faster than any other borough in the county (the national average is 7% so this clearly isn’t a positive choice for most people)
•Only 28.5% of local children attend local community schools.

Something needs to be done to give parents more confidence in our schools

The Council is seriously considering closing at least one secondary school and at least one primary school in the south of the Borough, on the basis that there are currently unacceptably high levels of surplus places: approximately 1,120 at primary level and 1,400 at secondary level.

Our research shows that the actual number of surplus places at secondary schools are 624

(click here for details).

This makes us very worried about the justification for closing schools.
